THE CHILD & YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE COLLABORATIVE

CANADIAN MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION, DOCTORS OF BC & THE GOVERNMENT OF BC

Building results-oriented improvement capability with practice coaching for 17 diverse community-based teams participating in a provincial collaborative aiming to improve child and youth mental health and substance use care and outcomes.  Key elements: quality improvement, change management coaching and consultation, facilitation, training, team building, quality improvement collaborative.


Quality Improvement Workshop

Representative for Child & Youth with the Centre for Collaboration, motivation & innovation 

Designed and delivered two custom two-day workshops for 60 attendees to understand and apply elements of contemporary large-scale collaborative improvement frameworks (i.e., BTS Collaborative, Collective Impact, social movement concepts) drawing on the science of improvement and network science.  The workshop integrated evidence-informed adult learning models to maximize the learner experience and outcome. Key elements: adult learning models, training, facilitation, quality improvement, measurement


BC Inpatient Sepsis toolkit

The BC Patient Safety & Quality Council

Supported development of the BC Inpatient Sepsis Toolkit through consolidation of pilot tested clinical tools, material synthesis, writing, and revisions by way of a multi-stakeholder engagement process while liaising closely with the clinical and initiative lead to realize project deliverables. Key elements: writing, engagement, collaboration, quality improvement, clinical process improvement.  


90-DAY iNNOVATION WORKSHOP 

BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS 

Design and delivery of a highly participatory, mixed methods approach to facilitate innovation, change, and improvement in a discrete 90-day project management cycle. The approach is flexible, adaptable to variety of contexts and challenges, and combines a series of activities and models designed to increase learning, ideation, testing, and change. Key elements: facilitation, change management, program development, innovation, project management


Quality Improvement network 

BC CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE IN HIV/AIDS

Design, implementation, and support for a diverse 200+ member network aiming to sustain performance improvements after a quality improvement collaborative. Informed by stakeholder engagement and social network theory, the network was designed to support teams in peer learning, exchange, and connection. Evaluation pointed to  success of combined efforts in realizing sustained performance improvements (1).  Key elements: facilitation, quality improvement, change management, network theory, quality improvement collaborative, program design, research & writing


HIV Continuum of Care QUALITY IMPROVEMENT Collaborative

BC CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE IN HIV/AIDS

Comprehensive initiative design and implementation support for a 14-month Quality Improvement Collaborative aiming to build change capacity and improve HIV outcomes in 23 British Columbia sites. Teams reported success in improving care quality and sponsors viewed the project as valuable in driving change, aligning work to organizational objectives, helping participants connect to a shared goal, and providing a safe space for collaboration and knowledge exchange.  Key elements: project management, change management, quality improvement, quality improvement collaborative, training, team building, stakeholder and sponsor engagement


Clinical handover change model

Dalhousie University

Extensive analysis including a literature review, interviews with key stakeholders, and synthesis of lessons learned during the BC Children’s Hospital experience with a Lean Rapid Process Improvement Workshop to improve the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of clinical handovers in the acute care setting. Findings were synthesized to develop an informed change model and prepared for publication (2). Key elements: research & writing, stakeholder engagement, literature review

 


Nursing models of care report 

Provincial Health Services authority

Environmental scan, literature review, and key informant interviews were performed to create a summary report with key recommendations related to contemporary and innovative models of nursing care in the acute pediatric care setting. Recommendations and report were presented to the PHSA executive team. Key elements: analysis, interview, research & writing
